Historically N Korea rattles sabres, negotiates with the US, gets aid & etc, then fails to meet the obligations of the deal. Then years later repeats.
This time I wonder if it's a method of a spoiled child to gain respect. Then again Hitler used blaming others to bring his people together.
Regardless, this should be taken seriously. If N Korea attacks we should wipe them out, and not play around. There should be zero negotiations.
My personal attitude is and has always been, if you attack me or mine I will kill you. No warnings or negotiations will be given. Swift and maximum retaliation will be heading your way. Unfortunately our leaders are wusses.

Texas Pigs
Yesterday the eldest asked if I was interested in a trip to Texas to shoot pigs. I friend lives down that way and has access to a large tract of private land. If we go we'd be joining 2 of his friends to rid the land of as many pigs as we care to kill.
He and I both have a problem with killing animals and letting them lay, even if they're considered pests. Not only that, but short notice is an issue.
I think the trip will have to wait until next winter when we can transport some pork back with us.

Robot
We received our new floor cleaning robot today. The Boss ordered it because running a vacuum cleaner is rough on her back. A few years ago she had spine surgery removing arthritis from the bones. She hurts for several days after cleaning the floors, but hates to ask me to do it for her.
Today I vacuumed the high use areas, the same areas with the most dog fur. Later when the robot arrived, I let it do the low traffic areas. It did OK, but I suspect it won't get the floor as clean as our Dyson Animal. Even if we occasionally need to run the Dyson, it'll still save on the back pain. Besides, at least at first, it's entertaining to watch run around.

Liberty Protected . . . . I Hope
Looks like the UN Arms treaty is heading the way we 'paranoid gun nuts' have anticipated. I'm sure the administration and some others are loving it. Thankfully there are some who are actually following the oath of office.
Screen potential gun buyers
Of the new laws the gun-grabbers want to pass, there is one part that I support. How about screening potential gun buyers regards their presidential ballot. It' obvious that those who voted for Obama are too stupid to be a gun owner. I wouldn't trust them with a paintball gun, let alone a firearm.
Chasing Dots
The Shiba Inu has the reputation of being cat-like for a dog. Our Miko is no exception. She cleans her paws on a regular basis, rolls on her back during play, sometimes sounds like s cat, and chases red dots from a laser pointer across the floor.
What's surprising and more humorous is that Thunder, German shepherd-husky mix, also chases red laser dots on the floor. He does it with more enthusiasm. Apparently he has a stronger predator instinct.

Need Sights
I e-mailed TDI asking about choke or pattern size distance recommendation. I'll be attending their Tactical Shotgun class this summer. The largest choke tube I have was suggested because defensive use is always close.
I was also told that slugs will be at ranges up to 100 yards. Shooting with just a bead won't work that far away for me. I don't intend to ever shoot slugs out of that gun after the class, so I think I'll put on a set of clamp on sights.

The Wrong Side
I learned today that drivers in India drive on the left side of the road like in England. I guess that makes some sense because India was part of the English empire for a long time. And I was told that all of Asia, with a couple of exceptions, also drives on the left side. I was surprised to learn those facts.
I've heard that the British drive on the left because of history. In the chariot days the drivers drove on the left so they could slash the other guy with the sword in their right hand, being right handed. At least that's what I've heard. I've been in Austria, Germany and Poland. They drive on the right side and had a horse & sword time period. Why don't they drive on the left?

Prosperity Doomed
It is a mistake to suppose that the public wants the environment protected or their lives saved and that they will be grateful to any idealist who will fight for such ends. What the public wants is their own individual comfort.
That is a quote from the book The Gods Themselves by Asimov. In the book it's said by a politician.
In today's world it not only applies to the environment, but to the vast issues with our struggling economy. Most agree, at least those with half a brain, that our out of control government spending is on the verge of flushing this country down the toilet. Inevitably they also want their favorite program spared from the ax. Therefore the socialists will always control at least 2 of the 3 branches, and as a free prosperous country we are doomed.

Shotgun Fun
Met the eldest at the range today to mutually check out shotgun patterns and slug impacts. His patterns about 12 inches high at 75 feet and throws slugs about a 2 feet high at 50 yards. Mine patterns about at the bead at 75 feet and throws slugs 3 inches low and 6 inches left at 50 yards. At about 35 feet, we both blew out the center of the target with buckshot. He was using a modified choke tube, and I had improved cylinder installed.
Neither of us care about the slugs, except that a "tactical shotgun" course this summer requires some slug shooting. We both prefer #4 (about 0.24") buckshot to 00 buckshot (0.33") because of the increased number of hits and a more consistent pattern in both our guns. #4 has 27 pellets and 00 has 9 or 12 depending. Unfortunately #4 buck is harder to find in this neck of the woods.
I'm thinking about attaching a rear site the the barrel rib of my CZ. I'm concerned that if I do, I'll tend to use it even when not shooting slugs.

Good Company
This morning the Boss and I went to our 5 year old grandson's last basketball game of the season. The games are held in a small gymnasium of a church. We've been there twice before. I'm always carrying when I go anyplace other than work, and I strongly suspect my son was also carrying. This time I could tell there was another gun present. The unmistakable butt of a handgun was bulging near the 4 o'clock position of a man across the court.
I doubt anybody else noticed, but if they did, didn't care.

Range Report
Well, the 30 carbine worked flawlessly for the 20 rounds or so I had available, using 3 different magazines. As expected it hit a bit high at 50 yards. Now I need to acquire dies and bullets to load ammo.
I installed the improved cylinder choke tube and fired the CZ712 Utility like a shotgun, which it is, instead of like a rifle. It patterned at about 2-1/2 - 3 feet with low brass target loads at 25 yards, at the bead. The 9 buck shot pellets patterned about 2 feet. Slugs at 50 yards hit near the bead as well. The next step is a high visibility bead and extended magazine tube.
So far so good for both of those long guns.
Also did some 25 yard bulls eye work with the Browning Buckmark and the Charter 44 Bulldog. There was a time when I was much more accurate with handguns. Those skills erode quickly.

Really?
The Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States and the Ohio Revised Code grant permission, so why wouldn't the Columbus Board of Education grant its permission? Teachers are entrusted with the safety of our students, so let us keep them safe. If the board is sincere about the safety of the students, then let those with CCW permits carry their weapons on the job.
What kind of teacher is this guy anyway? The Constitution does not grant anything, it protects rights we have, and puts restrictions on the power of government. Of course these days, we might as well set the thing on fire, for all the attention we give it.

Don't Need No Defense or Economy
Have you noticed that federal defense spending is always reduced when a Democrat resides in the Whitehouse? Because of government incompetence, defense spending has and continues to catch the blunt of reducing the overall spending increase. This time it's happening with open threats from Iran and North Korea, and we even continue to give money away to other countries that are even more incompetent.
Good news! The unemployment rate dropped by a whopping 0.2(?) percent. About half of that is because of people dropping out of the workforce. We have the lowest workforce participation percentage in decades. Regardless of what anybody says, the economy still sucks, and the present policies are a complete failure. So what did we do last fall? We put the same dick-heads back in office.

It Can't Happen Here ??
In March [2012], the attorney general of the United States, one Eric Holder of Fast and Furious fame, told students at the Northwestern University Law School that the president could kill any American citizen so long as he and his secret advisers determined the person was a threat.
I have my battle rifles, not just for sport, but because the potential enemy has them.
It most definitely can happen here.

Back Home - 30 Carbine
Picked up my 30 carbine from the smith yesterday. It's had an issue caused by soft steel stopping the piston. The soft stuff would mushroom and stop the weight from fully closing the action. He used extra high strength silver solder to replace some of the softer metal with harder metal. If that doesn't work, there's no charge to try another fix. I'm anxious to try it out.
He also checked the head space, without me asking. Normally if the head space is off in a used gun, it's too long. Not this time. He found the head space to be too short. He fixed that too.
He told me it shot very smooth during his test.
I have 1 magazine that I know functions as it should. One got blown apart when the bolt didn't fully close and the case split. I have 4 magazines that need some slight adjustment. They don't latch in place like they should. The standard capacity is 15 rounds. That makes the carbine one of those evil guns.
Hopefully some range time this weekend.

DC BS
The cost of living, the real cost not the government numbers, have been skyrocketing. Most pay is stagnant at best. My gross pay is still 15K less than it was 7 years ago. And the government is screaming about a 2% cut, and it's a cut in their increase spending. Hell, we all got that cut in January. What a bunch of ass holes we have in DC.
Great Vet Experience
Our 13 month old Shiba has had her share of health problems. She has skin issues that the local vet thought was allergies, so we tried different food and treats. She also had hundreds of eye lashes growing out of her tear glands onto her eyeball. A while back she had a scratched eye.
The Boss, concerned about the dog's discomfort and possible eye damage took her to an optomologist, for dogs. I didn't even know there was such a thing. Anyway, Wednesday we took her to Columbus (Ohio) for surgery. They put her under and froze the follicles. Now she's wearing a cone on her head, getting warm wet compresses and ointment 4 times a day. And also medications 2 times a day.
While there, a dermatologist looked at her skin. I didn't know there was those either. It isn't allergies, but some kind of mite infestation. In 2 weeks, after finishing her eye medication, she'll be starting on treatment to kill a bunch of mites.
I had no idea that medical specialists for animals existed. These animal specialists are certainly a cut above people doctors that I've seen. The hospital and the people there were professional and caring. The Boss and I have both had surgeries, and I cal tell you from experience that our dog and our dog's owners were treated better that either one of us at a people facility.
If you live anywhere near Columbus Ohio, and have the need, I highly recommend MedVets. They also have a Dayton Ohio office, but it's only open 2 days a week.
Also there's a LaQuinta just off I-270 that is pet friendly, with no restrictions. Our shepherd -husky mix stayed with us, even in the hospital waiting room, and he behaved wonderfully. A bit to my surprise. The desk clerk told me that they get more room damage from people than from the pets that stay there. Sounds like the 2 legged mammals are more the animals.
