South Carolina & Not a Clue

I've only been to South Caroline in the summer, except for one trip just driving through. Frankly I don't much like the climate. Never been a guy that likes hot sticky weather, and I'm also not much of a fan of beaches.

There is one thing though that attracts me to that state. They have now eliminated sales tax on buying guns two times. Not only that, Mayor Bloomburg is annoyed by S.C. If that gun grabber doesn't like S.C., then I like S.C.
--------------------

One of the biggest problems with a voting population is that it seems a lot are clueless about what-who they vote for. The young are too busy to pay much attention, and the old are under the spell of the old media.

We had 3 over the age of 80 at our thanksgiving meal, and not a one had an understanding as to why I think we should fire the Fed and start over. They certainly think the "elite" are basically crooks, but they have absolutely no idea as to the consequences of what's being pushed on us. They don't understand it's about power and control, and that this country isn't anything like what they think it is.

Keep your powder dry.

Thanksgiving

I certainly hope all of you had a wonderful thanksgiving. Ours was good and uneventful. It's great to have family, but when a bunch are all together there are times when friction can cause sparks. That didn't happen this year.

The Boss and I spent a large portion of the 4 day weekend with family and friends. In fact the eldest adopted grandson spent all 4 days with us.

Then to finish off the holiday, I loaded 100 rounds each of 45acp and 454 Casull while watching the local pro-football team pull out another ugly win. Afterwards the Boss pointed out a purse in a catalog that she wants. It has a compartment for carrying a handgun. If I can get her to schedule the time, we still need to get to the range and recoil test her surgically repaired hand.

Imaginary Rockets

Another engineer and I went through the old flat files containing ancient drawings, pitching quite a few, in preparation to them being shipped to the new business location. We found some tool drawings that I know the other guy will want so I stuck them in a large tube for shipping...The tube reminded me of a disposable rocket launcher, so I walked around the office firing immaginary rockets.

I'll soon be 59 and as yet I haven't lost all of the little boy within. Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional. Lat's hope I never completely grow up.

Enough of The BS

I don’t know about the rest but I’ve had about enough of the BS. Does our government, local, state and federal think we’re all morons? Have they forgotten that most everyone under the age of 60 has e-mail and internet access? Don’t they realize that their self-serving corrupt ways of the past are obsolete because they all come out in the end?

I’m old enough to remember when communism, socialism, totalitarianism and fascism were words uttered with hated distaste. Before FOX news, and the internet, all we knew was what the media wanted us to know and politicians like FDR promoted those ideals in relative secrecy while publicly preaching against them. Our present age of instant communication has put an end to such nonsense. Now our leaders preach and sell those ideals to the public disguised as something different. About 50% of the population are buying into them, hook, line and sinker, for “the good of all”. B.S. And if they didn’t it wouldn’t matter. Our government has devolved into a European style where things will happen for the “good of the people”, whether the people want it or not, because government knows better. B.S. It’s all about power and control.

The people of Europe, and the rest of the world bow down to the ruling class and always have. The US was born by slapping the ruling class in the face and telling them to take a hike. The result has been a nation that has progressed faster and lasted longer at the top than any other in history. Unfortunately we’ve lost track of our roots and are falling into the norm of destructing from within like many great societies before us. We are devolving into our (mostly) European ancestors. We are allowing the ruling class to once again take control.

The self-defined progressives are progressing us towards a nation that can be described by those hated words above. They’ll never admit it, but it’s true. Only the dumbest of rocks can’t see that it’s true. Only a rock could possibly think that’s the right direction to go. History has proven that communism, socialism, etc., only benefit the ruling class and stifles any society as a whole. Even China has recognized the benefits of a free market. While the more prosperous other countries of the world are moving towards what we used to be, we are moving backwards.

The Fed. is now controlling finance and automotive companies, and is trying to gain control of oue personal health. And then just in case we decide to object physically the administration wants to confirm an arms treaty, bypassing congress, that will attempt to disarm the citizens.

It’s time to recognize the B.S. for what it is, an effort to gain more power and control by “the ruling class”. It’s time for the people to regain the power and control. one way or the other. Like the sign on the back of my truck says “fire the federal government”.

There is still some hope though. Several states have passed, and others are looking to pass, resolutions that tell the Fed. government to back off and quit ignoring The Constitution. They are reaffirming their sovereignty.

Also, the TEA Party groups and others like the Oath Keepers are speaking out. Maybe, just maybe the power and control freaks are paying attention. I’m having my doubts though. To me, it’s just as likely that Obama will become another war president, only this time like Lincoln.

In a Better Place

Yesterday evening the Boss and I attended the funeral service celebrating the life of my son's mother-in-law and the Boss's good friend. She passed after 3 years of suffering through the effects of ALS. Thankfully her suffering is finally at an end.

I called the service a celebration because it was primarily a gathering of friends and family. There were definatley some times of great saddness because of our loss, but those were brief because most said their goodbyes a while back.

The best thing a parent can do is bring their children to these events. It's amazing how the spirits of all can be lifted by a child playing. My own grandson was very reserved and quiet at first. That's completely out of character for him, but when he reverted back to his normal self it brought a smile to the Boss. And that was a welcome relief.

Shooting Thoughts

Today at lunch I was dragged, screaming to the range. Since I was forced to be there, I decided to go ahead and practice my weak hand shooting some more with the 22 target pistol. Practice may not make perfect, but I am getting better. The total impact area dropped by about 40% and was more centered on the target.

I've always enjoyed teaching others about shooting, so I checked into getting certified by the NRA as an instructor. It's more pricy than I thought. It costs $225 to be trained as a certified basic rifle instructor and $150 for pistol. Since I'll be unemployed come January, I thought I could spend the time. At those prices I'm having second thoughts.

Ohio Liberty Council

Ever heard of the Ohio Liberty Council?
Until recently I had not, but it looks like they're worth keeping an eye on.

To Fix The Economy

Came to me by e-mail.

Dear Mr. President,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan":

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following
stipulations:

1) They MUST retire.. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed...

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their
taxes...

Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto!

If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know.

---------------------------------------
ADDED 11/17/09
If you multiply 40 million by 1 million that comes to something like $40 trillion. Yeah, that'll really help the country.

That Makes me Hurt

The Boss and I spent most of the day working in the church building where she attends. There are 4 large rooms in the basement where assorted stuff is stored, one of which is supposed to be for building/construction supplies. The oldest adopted grandson helped me for 5 hours transporting stuff from the other 3 rooms, and straightening up that one room. You'd think only teenagers were allowed in there instead of adults. My arthritic joints hurt like hell now.

I was sitting in the armory, after getting back home, watching the Ohio State vs Iowa game on the tube when the grandson's latest "father" arrived. He wanted to know about getting a license to hunt deer. After going through all that, I offered to let him use either my smooth bore slug gun or muzzle loader if he was serious. I won't him let borrow one of my revolvers for that purpose because I've seen him shoot.

Since he hasn't had a license before, he'll have to sit through a hunter safety course. There's one offered locally a week from today. If he gets his license I'll probably go also. I was invited, and I haven't been hunting in a couple of years. I could use some time spend in the woods. Time spent in the outdoors is a good thing, whether I see a shootable animal or not. I probably wouldn't even take a shot, that's when the work begins.

Just Wondering

A few days ago we had our yearly problem with the sewer backing up between the house and the septic tank. The guy came to open it up when I was at work so the Boss locked the door to my work room/armory. On the outside of the door, that the plumber walked by, is taped the 2 silouette targets full of 9mm and .45 holes from my last one handed pistol practice. I wonder what he thought, if anything, about seeing those targets hanging there.

Weak Hand Only

A few weeks ago I took a gent from work with me to the range so he could fire his grandfather's 8mm Mauser for the first time, as well as a few of my guns. Since that time he's been wanting to spend lunch at a range close by. This last week we spent our lunch hour at a local indoor range shooting .22 handguns.

He's owned a couple guns for some time, all inherited, but wasn't much interested in shooting. With a little help from me I believe he's becoming a convert. Unfortunately our upcoming unemployment will slow this down for a while.

This particular indoor range is one a club has resurrected from the past and is only 50 feet, but it is sufficient. I spent the whole time practicing using a handgun with my weak (left) hand only.

As you can see, I'm still shooting a bit to the right with the left hand. This doesn't happen with a 2 handed grip.

One thing I noticed this time. I was shooting with the gun canted slightly to the right. Apparently I was doing that before. I find it difficult to hold the pistol vertical with just my left hand.

The gun shoots just above the sights at this range, so I automatically held the front site centered and just below the aiming point. But since it shoots just above the site when vertical, it shoots the same place relative to the site when canted. That throws the shots slightly right. I need to keep that in mind next time.

The target is again 1/2 sized, so in a defensive situation I'm doing good enough. But at a target with lots of time and no pressure, I'm not satisfied.

I told the eldest about the Oath Keepers this evening. He claims that technically speaking, the oath he took as a Marine requires him to eliminate the President, Vice President and more than half of the congress-critters. Not knowing the oath, I couldn't comment.

A Terrible Way to go

My youngest son's wife lost her mother last Sunday from ALS. I guess it's fair to say that she actually faded away over a few months, and her body finally passed last Sunday. The Boss had become good friends with her.

Three years ago the Boss lost her mother due to Alzheimer's. Six months before that I lost my mother to the same disease.

I'd rather leave this world by being hit by a truck.

Duhh

My only excuse is that it's been over a decade since I did any of this stuff.
Reinstalling the operating system on a PC does not produce an operating PC unless the device drivers are also installed.

The House of Assholes

I just heard that The House of Assholes has passed their version of a health care bill that includes government control. When The People voted for change, I wonder if their version of change included a desire for government control of their lives, and the complete ruination of all the factors that has made this country great, at least until now.

Statism - the principle or policy of concentrating extensive economic, political, and related controls in the state at the cost of individual liberty.

Communism - a system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.

Totalitarianism - absolute control by the state or a governing branch of a highly centralized institution.

I'm old enough to remember when 'communism' was a bad word in this country. Now we're absolutely running in that direction.

Crappy Old PC

I'm writing this post from the Boss's laptop because the old PC is not functional at this time. It had been acting strange for a while, so I decided to follow the advice from the IT guy at work. I saved all the data files to CDs and reinstalled the original operating system. I've actually reinstalled Windows XP about 4 times this weekend with the same less than satisfactory results.

I'm unable to adjust the screen resolution using control panel, and the router software refuses to install. The PC has been cable connected to a wireless router (wireless for the laptop). The router is then connected to the Internet through a cable modem. As far as I'm concerned, that old PC is useless unless I can get it to run connected to the 'net.

A Time for Profiling

As I write this I'm watching the last few minutes of Josey Wales. Josey ran around carrying 4 single action handguns. In Fort Hood one crazy with 2 handguns shot the hell out of the place. Why is it that US soldiers are restricted from carrying weapons? Why are our military bases "gun free"?

As the Boss said "that's just stupid".

She also said "another Muslim killing Americans".

Seems to me it's time for profiling. All Muslims are at least potentially my enemy. All my life I've chosen to assume the best of people until they prove me wrong. For self-preservation reasons it makes sense to treat Muslims just the opposite.

No Bangy - Bang

About a week ago I received my Bulldog 44 special back from the Smith. He was to smooth out the action, which he did, and eliminated any noticeable creep while in the process. He also made some lighter springs that were installed, that I didn't ask for. It felt great, until I fired it yesterday.

In single action it would fire 3 out of 5 on average. In double action it only fired 2 out of 10. So back to the smith it goes this week.

The trigger may feel great, but it's nothing better than a paper weight if it doesn't go bang.

Freedom Retreats

Right now the way to bet is that once free societies will retreat incrementally, one trivial step after another, into a totalitarian hell. -- Mark Steyn, National Review Online

Stolen from the Minority.

And I agree that he's not wrong, at least not totally. The last decade, incremental has turned into a landslide.

Subterfuge

There's a remake of the old miniseries "V" coming out soon on the tube, so the cable is now showing the old version. I've managed to watch a couple of episodes the last few days.

For those unfortunate souls that don't watch SciFi let me explain a little. The miniseries "V" is about reptiles from another universe, masquerading as human, that arrive promising peace and tranquility. The people of the world buy into this subterfuge except for a few that make up the resistance. The real purpose is to control the population and strip the Earth of all natural resources.

There seems to be some parallel between the SciFi show and what's happening in this country today. We're being promised all kinds of things that may look good on the surface, but underneath there is the evil intent to control the population for the advantage of the few.

As in the fictional world of SciFi, there are a few that see through the lies.

With One Hand

I joined the eldest today for a few hours at the range. He shot groups with various loads through his HiPower, 1911 and Styre .40. I tried his Styre and liked it a lot. Unfortunately it doesn't fit my Small hands well enough to shoot it one handed.

In my opinion any handgun for defensive use must be such that the shooter can use it effectively with one hand. I also think the shooter should have at least some proficiency with either hand. Today I practiced one hand shooting with my Browning Buckmark .22 a lot.

I also shot one handed at 1/2 sized targets at 25 yards with 2 of my carry guns, the Kahr PM9 and 1911. An equal number was fired left handed and right handed. The target on the left was left hand only. The one on the right was right hand only.

In both cases I was pushing the shots slightly right with just one hand. It was more prominent with the PM9 and also with my left hand. Yep, I need more practice.
