Frustrating

Little by little over the past few years the Boss has endured bouts of allergic reactions that have increased in frequency and amplitude.  It usually happens in the summer when she's been outside partaking in her dirt therapy.  She loves working in the flowers.

This last year the symptoms have gotten more frequent and more intense.  Sometime around the first of December her eyes started swelling almost shut, and her mouth hurts, just about every day.  Last Friday I took her to a specialist.  Her eyes we so swollen she couldn't see to drive.  A ton of environmental tests all were negative for allergies.  Her blood pressure medicine has been changed, blood was drawn for more tests, and now she carries an epi-pen wherever she goes.

If we ever find out the problem, maybe we can do something about it.

Well Duh

On the one hand we have government asses trying to disarm the entire population, and on the other we have the asses at the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) endorsing the AR 15 as appropriate for home defensive use.  And high-capacity magazines as well.
Came by e-mail:

1. You can mount a light, red dot sight and/or a laser to the rifle to make it easy to used and aim during the day or night.
2. They have a reasonable recoil, making the gun - for many users – easier to shoot as compared to a defense-caliber shotgun or pistol.
3. They can be customized to “fit” a variety of body types and shooting styles. They can be configured and adjusted for different shooting distances (less than 5 yards to more than 200 yards).
4. The .223/5.56 self-defense round is appropriate for use within a home, even in an urban environment. Ballistic experts have found rounds from these calibers “dump energy” quickly and break apart or begin to tumble after penetrating the first barrier. Will rifle rounds go through walls? You bet. Will pistol calibers like 9mm, .40 and .45 go through walls? You bet. Will shotgun rounds go through walls? You bet. That said, there is significant evidence the .223/5.56 self-defense rounds penetrate no more than, and often less than traditional handgun calibers and many shotgun rounds.
5. A rifle is much more capable of stopping a threat as compared to a pistol.
6. Semi-automatic rifles are more accurate than a pistol or shotgun.
7. Ammunition is (normally) readily available and (normally) priced within reason. Present time excluded.
8. You can buy high-capacity magazines for many semi-automatic rifles. In a self-defense situation, you want to avoid manipulating the weapon at all except for pulling the trigger straight back. Law enforcement and civilians do not favor high-capacity magazines so they can shoot more rounds, they favor them so they can manipulate their weapon less. If reloading is needed, it is possible but let’s be completely honest, in many self defense situations, ten rounds may not be enough.

Impressive Law

Via e-mail comes this story.

The City of Dallas, Texas passed an ordinance stating that if a driver is pulled over by law enforcement and is not able to provide proof of insurance, the car is towed.

To retrieve the car after being impounded, they must show proof of insurance to have the car released. This has made it easy for the City of Dallas to remove uninsured cars.

Shortly after the "No Insurance" ordinance was passed, the Dallas impound lots began to fill up and were full after only nine days. Over 80% of the impounded cars were driven by illegals.

Now, not only must they provide proof of insurance to have their car released, they have to pay for the cost of the tow, a $350 fine, and $20 for every day their car is kept in the lot.

Guess what? Accident rates have gone down 47% and... Dallas' solution gets uninsured drivers off the road WITHOUT making them show proof of nationality.

I Wonder how the ACLU or the Justice Department will get around this one.

Just brings tears to your eyes doesn't it?

Not Just the 2A

There's more than the 2A under attack these days.  It seems that it has become an act of terrorism to assemble in protest.

Our liberties are being stripped without much of a battle.  Obama and his partners in crime are without a doubt winning the war to transform this country.  How far will we let them go before . . . . . ?

More Gov BS

So we've got half  of the Fed and a pot full of the citizens all a tither about do-nothing gun control when the whole country is being flushed down the toilet.  The Fed is a huge fat cow sucking the life out of our economy, killing our country, and they're screwing around with steeling more of our rights.

I doubt they will ever get to business doing their job.  Did you know they haven't passed a budget since Obama was elected the first time?  And that's just a small part of their poor performance.

Fire them all and start over.
-------

And there's MSNBC that says there is no war on the 2A.  More BS.  The war has been going all my life.

Forgot

I had forgotten that this is gun appreciation day.  I had thought the mob at the gun shop was just an extension of the recent feeding frenzy, but maybe not.  I had to wait for a parking space in the lot to even go inside.

I didn't buy a gun but I did buy 15 rounds of buck shot and 15 slugs for the new 12 Ga.  Hopefully I'll get to do some more evaluation soon.

What a Joke

That guy a just pathetic.  He says to enforce existing laws and do what the NRA said.  Didn't he say that it's ridiculous to have armed guards in schools?  In my estimation he wouldn't even be a good used car salesman.  Then again he could be lying to our collective faces and actually plans to do other things.  He is one of the most evil politicians I've ever seen, elected by stupid voters.

Stupid Voters

"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me, as we change it."
-- Barack Obama
''Life's tough, pilgrim, and it's even tougher if you're stupid.”
-- John Wayne

Yep, at least half the voters are stupid.

Flame Extinguished

The Obama has successfully screwed over every US industry, but one.  So now he's going after the last remaining light, the firearms industry.  And due to the stupidity of our congress critters and those that elected them, especially him, our last glimmer of success will have the flame extinguished.

The only effect will be another hit to the economy.  Maybe some day the public will notice that the emperor has no clothes.  Naturally we need to pull our heads out of our collective asses first.

On The Edge

Talked to several liberty gun owners at work today.  I was wondering how they thought the new gun restrictions would go.  Every one has resolved themselves to the belief that we will soon have more liberty stripped from us by big Gov.  And every one is wishing they would go so far as to require registration or confiscation.  Most are spoiling for a fight, a reason to rebel.  The nitpicking has gotten old, so it seems.

Range Report CZ 712 Utility

The ATI adjustable stock is well worth the money, especially the recoil pad.  The combination of being gas operated semi-automatic and the recoil pad makes the 12 Ga 00 buck feel more like a 20 Ga hunting load, and significantly tames the recoil from slugs.

It functioned flawlessly with light target loads of #8 and standard 00 buck loads but for some reason didn't particularly like the Win Ranger reduced recoil 00 buck stuff.  After a few boxes of shells I'll try them again.  Funny thing, the reduced recoil didn't feel much different than the standard loads to me.

With the IC choke installed the #8 pattern at about 50 feet spread all over a full sized silhouette target and the 00 buck pattern was about 24 inches.  Also, slugs hit about a foot low and left at 50 yards.  The weather turned bad so I didn't try any other choke tubes.

A buddy talked me into trying one of his 3" 12 Ga slugs.  Even being a semi and with the good recoil pad, the felt recoil was intense.  I won't be buying any of those.  I'm not particulerly recoil sensitive, but my bad right shoulder can only take so much.

Correction - the cylinder bore choke tube was installed.

Fun Tomorrow

Unless something unusual happens I'm off to the range tomorrow.  Hope to do some patterning with the CZ712 and  then some 200 yard work with the 6.5 Swedish Mauser.  Meeting a friend that has a new, for him, 30-06.

The CZ712 Utility is OK as is for defense use, but I still plan on a couple of minor modifications.  I want to add a 2 round magazine extension, sling, and a co-worker suggested ghost ring sight.  I have some light load shot for target, 00Buck and slugs to try.  Hopefully I'll find a single choke tube that works for all, but I doubt it.
