Bad Joints

The Boss went to the orthopedist the other day because her knee, replaced last spring, has been giving her trouble.  She saw the Doc the same day I was in physical therapy.  Now she's going to start therapy the first week of March. Getting old sucks.

My tendon is getting a little better with therapy.  Not a whole lot better, so still got a ways to go.  The more I use it, the more it talks to me.  With therapy, and being carful, it hasn't blown up on me for a while.

A Rare Day

Actually made it to the Range Sunday for the first time in . . what seems like forever.  Ran some AR rounds down range at various distances.  My friend said 'not bad old man".

Also worked on sighting the 454 lever gun.  Got it close, but not finished yet.

Rode with my friend, who got a phone call.  He's an IT guy with a local manufacturing company, so we had to leave.

Thought about riding afterward, but my tendon was talking to me.  Thought it was best to rest it, so didn't go.

Therapy

Started physical therapy on the Achilles tendon this week.  I found out that not only is the tendon damaged, but the calf muscle is partially damaged as well.  I walked better going in to therapy than I did leaving.  Having said that, I could tell it was a little better the next day.

I'm scheduled for 2 sessions a week for four weeks.  The doctor said to let her know after 4 weeks if I don't feel any progress, and we'll schedule surgery.  Certainly hope to avoid the knife.

Nice Weather Coming

This coming weekend is supposed to be nice for riding.  If I go, it'll be just me and my horse.  The wife can't due to her recent surgery, and the other choice will be working.

I do have a rifle to sight in, so I'll surely make it to the range.

So Far OK

Was told the surgery went well.  She now has a new model of spinal stimulator implanted.  Apparently the anesthetic used has some lasting effects.  She's been sleeping for about 4 hours since we got home.

The new stimulator and wires are supposed to be MRI friendly, unlike the old unit.  I was told that the wires, now removed, would heat up from the field of the superconductor magnet.

Too early to tell if the new unit will help her pain management, but at least she's now MRI friendly.  Apparently her titanium knee, nor my nickel-chrome-boron hip are an issue with MRI.

The First in Months

Tomorrow the Boss will be in surgery once again.  This time they will replace her spinal stimulator with a different type.  The one she has no longer masks her pain.

Since she may not be able to ride her horse for about a month, we went for a short ride today.  She's had her horse for about 2 years.  I've had mine for about 8 months.  Her horse behaved quite well, even after not being ridden for a few months.  My horse, not so much.

For some reason she tried her best to haul ass after we entered the picked been field.  So we had an argument, then went back onto the little paved road.  We had a few smaller disagreements, but not like the first.  We stayed off the trails because of the deep mud.

Other than almost getting tossed near the beginning, it was a good ride.

Was Evidently Wrong

I had always thought, and been taught in government class, that the courts were to interpret the law passed by congress.  And the constitution is the top most level of the laws of the land.  It appears that I've been wrong all of these years.  It has become increasing clear that the court system also makes laws, just like all of our bureaucratic agencies.
