Crap

I had plans to take the eldest grandson to a big paintball game this Sunday, but unfortunately the weather man just isn't cooperating. We're supposed to have thunderstorms all weekend. I'm not willing to drive 3 hours and take the chance that we'll get to play.

That seems to be the pattern of late. Nice and sunny during the week, and rainy weekends.

Sorry about that

I was informed that there isn't an active link in the post below. Sorry about that. Not sure I can find the article again, but if I do I'll fix it.

Cool

I never thought I'd see the day when 2 states start waring over the revenue from selling concealed carry licenses. Times have changed for the better, at least as far as carrying a personal protection device is concerned.

Still There

It looks to me like Daley still has that stick up his ass.

Who To Believe ??

One source says the new Arizona law allows LEO to stop and ask anyone, with just suspicion, for their ID proving they're not in the country illegally. If so I'm not happy with the new law.

Another source says the LEO must be in " legal contact" with the individual before asking for any ID. If so I agree with the law.

OK . . . . So who the hell do I believe?

Naturally my opinion doesn't mean spit.

He Doesn't Understand

Had a little discussion with a c0-0p (student) engineer today concerning gun ownership. One guy at work claims to have 7 AR-15s, "assembled" as he put it. The student just doesn't understand why anyone would want more than one of any type of gun. I explained the plethora of configurations and cartridges available for that platform. For instance, my AR is designed around quick handling and target acquisition chambered for the 223, and I'd like to have another one set up for longer distance shooting. My next one, if there is one, will most likely be with a heavy, cryogenically treated heavy barrel in something like 6.5MM or maybe something bigger in the AR-10 platform.

He still doesn't understand.

I Think It's Time

to teach the almost 3 year old grandson gun safety. Last night I stepped into the gun closet to check on my ammo supply when the little guy followed me in.

Little guy: Are those your guns grandpa?
Me: Yes they are.
Little guy: They're pretty. Then he started pulling triggers.

The guns (only long guns) in the closet are my least valuable and always stored unloaded, but . . . He needs to be taught some basics. I had a talk with his father tonight, and he agreed. His dad has almost as many guns as I do, though he may lock the door to the room. I'm not sure about that.

My 2 boys were in the neighborhood of 7 when I taught them about guns, including how to shoot. But then again I don't remember either one of them sleeping with a toy gun like the Little Guy has.

Range Day - Not

I packed up 3 rifles, 4 handguns and the appropriate ammunition then loaded them in the truck with other gear like targets. My eldest son arrived and we loaded his stuff in the truck. So off we went heading for the range in a light drizzle of rain. The water falling from the sky isn't a big deal because the firing line has a roof. We were almost there when it started raining harder, now that is an annoyance. Paper targets don't do well in the rain. Crap!! We turned around and headed on back.

Oh well, I still had some time with my son. Besides, he picked up the tab for dinner.

Local Call

George Bush, Queen Elizabeth, and Vladimir Putin all die and go to hell.

While there, they spy a red phone and ask what the phone is for. The devil tells them it is for calling back to Earth.

Putin asks to call Russia and talks for 5 minutes. When he is finished the devil informs him that the cost is a million dollars, so Putin writes him a check.

Next Queen Elizabeth calls England and talks for 30 minutes. When she is finished the devil informs her that the cost is 6 million dollars, so she writes him a check.

Finally George Bush gets his turn and talks for 4 hours. When he is finished the devil informs him that the cost is $5.00.

When Putin hears this he goes ballistic and asks the devil why Bush got to call the USA so cheaply.

The devil smiles and replies: “Since Obama took over, the country has gone to hell, so it’s a local call.”

Stolen from Random Nuclear Strikes

Actually me thinks the slide to hell started decades ago, but the Obama and company not only put graese on the rails but gave a huge push as well.

Beautiful

Stolen from Bill

Pretty Cool

Arizona has now made it illegal in the state to be illegal in the country. This now gives state and local law enforcement the legal grounds to enforce what was previously only federal law. That's pretty cool in my estimation. The Feds have been falling down on the job for years, so the state has had enough and decided to do something about their situation themselves.

One of the very basic reasons to even have a federal government is to provide for the common defense of the country, including invasion. Hell, they can't even do that right.

So what's all the fuss about anyway? Is it asking too much that laws are actually enforced, especially since we don't have the money not to?

Well Duh !!

According to the local rag, an independent (not government) study has concluded that ObamaCare will in fact get more people health car coverage. It also concludes that the national cost will keep right on increasing despite the scheduled cuts in Medicare.

Well duh!!!

As I've said before the only way national and individual health care costs won't go up is to keep the percentage of elderly in the population constant or declining. Anyone thinking otherwise is a moron.

Not Alone

While stopped at a traffic light, on the way home tonight, a pick up next to me honked his horn and got my attention. When I looked over he gave me the thumbs up sign then pointed to the back of my truck. On the back is a small sign that says "FIRE THE FED GOV". Obviously I'm not alone in this ideal.

Loading The 380acp, For The First Time

I've now started loading the little 380acp for the Boss to have practice ammunition. Components are not exactly easy to find, and one needs to be a little careful because the brass is very weak and inconsistent in length. If you don't apply enough bell to the mouth the wall will collapse when seating the bullet. If too much bell is applied, then again the wall will collapse.

To make matters worse I made an error initially weighing the powder charge. Instead of 2.8 grains I loaded 1.8 grains. Now I have about 50 bullets to pull, cases to prepare once again.

A Citizen's Response

Making the e-mail rounds is this little gem.

Barack OBAMA, during his Cairo speech, said: "I know, too, that Islam has always been a part of America 's story."

AN AMERICAN CITIZEN'S RESPONSE:

Dear Mr. Obama:

Were those Muslims that were in America when the Pilgrims first landed? Funny, I thought they were Native American Indians.

Were those Muslims that celebrated the first Thanksgiving day? Sorry again, those were Pilgrims and Native American Indians.

Can you show me one Muslim signature on the United States Constitution?

Declaration of Independence ?

Bill of Rights?

Didn't think so.

Did Muslims fight for this country's freedom from England ? No.

Did Muslims fight during the Civil War to free the slaves in America ? No, they did not. In fact, Muslims to this day are still the largest traffickers in human slavery. Your own half brother, a devout Muslim, still advocates slavery himself, even though Muslims of Arabic descent refer to black Muslims as "pug nosed slaves." Says a lot of what the Muslim world really thinks of your family's "rich Islamic heritage," doesn't it Mr. Obama?

Where were Muslims during the Civil Rights era of this country? Not present.

There are no pictures or media accounts of Muslims walking side by side with Martin Luther King, Jr. or helping to advance the cause of Civil Rights.

Where were Muslims during this country's Woman's Suffrage era? Again, not present. In fact, devout Muslims demand that women are subservient to men in the Islamic culture. So much so, that often they are beaten for not wearing the 'hajib' or for talking to a man who is not a direct family member or their husband. Yep, the Muslims are all for women's rights, aren't they?

Where were Muslims during World War II? They were aligned with Adolf Hitler. The Muslim grand mufti himself met with Adolf Hitler, reviewed the troops and accepted support from the Nazis in killing Jews.

Finally, Mr. Obama, where were Muslims on Sept. 11th, 2001? If they weren't flying planes into the World Trade Center , the Pentagon or a field in Pennsylvania killing nearly 3,000 people on our own soil, they were rejoicing in the Middle East . No one can dispute the pictures shown from all parts of the Muslim world celebrating on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC and other cable news networks that day. Strangely, the very "moderate" Muslims who's asses you bent over backwards to kiss in Cairo , Egypt on June 4th were stone cold silent post 9-11. To many Americans, their silence has meant approval for the acts of that day.

And THAT, Mr. Obama, is the "rich heritage" Muslims have here in America .

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to mention the Barbary Pirates. They were Muslim.

And now we can add November 5, 2009 - the slaughter of American soldiers at Fort Hood by a Muslim major who is a doctor and a psychiatrist who was supposed to be counseling soldiers returning from battle in Iraq and Afghanistan .

That, Mr. Obama is the "Muslim heritage" in America.

Old Geezer Can Still Learn

I learned that if a computer has wireless capability, and the Ethernet cable is also attached, the computer gets confused. Hell, I thought it would automatically switch to the Ethernet connection. As suggested by the friendly computer guru, I disabled the wireless on the Bosses new computer and all became well with the world.

Blowing Off Steam

Throughout my lifetime I've chosen, consciously chosen to assume that all people are reasonable and basically honest, until the individual proves me wrong. I know I've generalized otherwise on this blog, to make a point. Usually those generalizations are with a comment about generalization being dangerous.

Sometimes the generalizations are a result of overwhelming evidence, so here's a generalization. In general, those that claim themselves to be Democrats have very little trust in the population of this country. As evidence, every time in my memory when the Democrats control any US government they take another step towards controlling the lives of The People. I conclude that they just don't trust us to run our own lives.

Now some will say, and I have said, that they are Marxists because they always seem to push towards government control of everything. I believe the evidence tends that way, but I choose to believe they lack the trusting gene because the alternative is that they are evil. I do believe evil exists, but I prefer to think people are not evil, at least until proven different.

Having said all that, the Democratic leadership is truly on track to prove me wrong. They're doing their damnest to prove, at least to me, that they are evil. Anyone that objects to their agenda is labeled as racist, extremist, hate monger, or some other "bad" name. Objectionists are also accused of causing, or attempting to cause violence.

I've got news for the Democrats. Vocally resisting government control is not extremism, it's originalism. We want our country to be as it was originally intended, and the right to voice any opinion was written into the Constitution. We don't want huge government. That's why this country was founded in the first place. The present Democratic agenda is extremism. If they truly want to avoid violence, then all they have to do is back off. As it is now, they're pushing us into a corner. Even a mouse will bite when backed into a corner.

Damn Computers

So another weekend comes to an end and the Boss has yet to try out her 380. As previously posted, yesterday was a day of shopping for new electronics, and I've spent most of today messing around with getting this stuff installed. The Boss spent half the day with her church family and the other half with yard work.

Being far from a computer geek, I struggled all day. I put in a new wireless router, and a wireless USB adaptor on the old Dell that's now in the armory. The dell is now internet and printer connected through the router. Not a problem there.

The new computer is also internet and printer connected but not as I originally wanted. I wanted it ethernet connected to the router, but I couldn't make that happen. For some reason it insists on using the built in wireless to the router, I think. That works but it's a bit slower than through the cable. In addition I couldn't get it connected to the printer via ethernet from the router to the printer, so I bought a long USB cable that I connected directly to the computer.

The Bosses laptop is on the new wireless router with internet access, but I still can't get it to print. I suspect the virus killed some needed files. Without a recovery disc I'm screwed unless I upgrade it from Vista to Windows 7.

I know a guy who can fix the issues but I hesitate to call him.

Gongrats to Arizona

as only the third state that actually upholds the natural, constitutionaly guaranteed right to bear arms without government interference. Effective around July.

No Joy Saturday

Another Saturday running around with the Boss. First to the bank for some cash, a granddaughters soccer game and finally a couple of electronic toy stores. We purchased a 27" LCD TV for the basement and a new computer system for the Boss. Her new computer has 8GB of RAM and 1TB of hard drive space with an ergonomic keyboard and a 23" monitor. That will replace the old Dell we bought, I think, 8 years ago. The Dell was recently upgraded to it's Max of 1 GB Ram.

I'll set the Dell up in my armory since it's completely inadequate for the new task as recently defined by the Boss, but is just fine for my use of a home computer . She purchased software that has the capability of rejuvenating very old photos that is a real computer resource hog.

Now I get the very painful job of setting it all up.

Happy Day

I hope every one is enjoying the celebration of NATIONAL LEGALIZED THEFT DAY.

I do my best to buy a gun or a bunch of ammo on this day of the year. Unfortunately I didn't make it this year. Shame on me.

Little Elephant

Four of the my new shirts from last Saturday have little elephants on the left breast. I didn't pay it much attention until one of the guys at work today pointed it out. His comment was it's a good thing it isn't a little donkey. I told him that I could barely tolerate the elephant because I'm not very fond of the Republican party these last couple of decades.

I found s place on line to down load the Dem donkey and the Rep elephant graphics. My original intent was to make a few donkey targets fot the range. If I do that I should shoot at both the donkey and the elephant.

I Just Hate Shopping

Yesterday the Boss drug me (actually I drove) down the highway about 45 minutes to a relatively new outlet mall. She's gotten tired of me wearing the same shirts each and every week, and for some reason thinks I need some new ones. Other than a couple pair of shoes that are easier on my gouty feet and a suit for job interviews, I haven't shopped for clothes for myself in years. The Boss buys them and I wear them. I like it that way.

I often wonder if some people are vampires and can't see themselves in mirrors. Maybe they don't own a mirror, or just don't care what kind of misery they force on these old eyes. For instance there was one guy wearing jeans that had some sort of red pattern on the back from his knees to his belt. He also wore a bright yellow belt, matching yellow cowboy boots and a red hat. He must've been real proud of those boots because he bloused his jeans so as not to hide any bit of that hideous color. It was all I could do to keep from bursting out in a loud laugh.

So I came home with 7 new shirts, sore feet and an achy hip. I just love arthritis. The best thing was looking forward to a trip to the range today. Yep, that worked out extremely well, as noted below.

The Plan For Today

went ker-plunk like so much wet newspaper. Yes I went to church with the Boss. Yes we enjoyed the little carry-in meal. And yes we hauled some stuff there for the upcoming church garage sale. But unfortunately we never made it to the range.

The Boss wanted to shoot her Firestorm 380, but alas I had only 1/2 a box of 380 ammo in the house. Now there's 3 gun shops within 15 minutes of where we live and 2 are open on Sunday, so no problem. Right? Wrong. Not a box of 380 to be found. There was a time when 25acp and 32acp was hard to find, but not today. I found that ammo in abundance, but not the 380.

Both shops claimed to be getting a shipment in around the middle of this week, so we're postponing our little trip for another week. I got on the 'net this afternoon and managed to order 500 rounds of once fired, mixed brass and 300 bullets for her 380, though not the ones I wanted. I ended up visiting 5 locations to find those. Even components are hard to find. Thankfully I was given dies for the short 9mm a few years ago. Looks like I'll be making ammo for the Boss as well as for myself.

Fed - - Take a Hike

There is an Ohio constitutional amendment proposal that's starting to gain momentum.

The amendment provides that, in Ohio:

◦No law or rule shall compel, directly or indirectly, any person, employer, or health care provider to participate in a health care system

◦No law or rule shall prohibit the purchase or sale of health care or health insurance

◦No law or rule shall impose a penalty or fine for the sale or purchase of health care or health insurance

Looks to me like somebody is setting the stage to tell the Fed to go take a hike regards the new health care law, and expands the likelihood of competition in the market.

Rifle Distance ?

A co-worker once stated that he knew someone that regularly carries a Bersa 380. As it turns out it is his sister. Since the Boss's Firestorm (Bersa) shot about 7" low for me at 25 yards I asked him about that. His first comment was that is rifle distance. I'll get to that in a moment.

He confirmed that his sister's gun shot a little low for him at his normal handgun range. I wondered if that is typical. I don't like to generalize using a sample of 2, but so far it appears to be normal. Looks like I'll learn a bit more this Sunday if we make it to the range for the Boss to sling some lead. It might hit closer to the sights in her weaker grip.

There seems to be a whole lot of handgun owners who can't hit a full sized silhouette target at anything beyond 20 feet, even slow fire. I understand training for personal defense at close range, but that's no excuse to not practice shooting at small and/or more distant targets.

For instance I practice shooting at 4" clay pigeons targets out to 100 yards with my revolvers, 12" targets out there at 200 yards and up to 50 yards (clay pigeons) with my autoloaders. This is pure marksmanship skills that I continually try to improve.

I seldom shoot any of my carry guns (45acp, 9mm, 380) at closer than 25 yards, and usually half sized silhouette targets are considered large. Improving any skill requires pushing your personal limits.

As was said in a movie "aim small, miss small".

This is Golden

Comedian Lewis Black had it right, back during the run-up to the 2000 election. "In my lifetime," he said, "we've gone from JFK to Al Gore. In my lifetime, we've gone from Ike to G.W. Bush.

"If this is progress, in a few years we're going to be voting for PLANTS!"

And not wondering why.

They've trained us well.

The Other Cheek

Has anyone noticed how the Dems elected to the big house of late are turn the other cheek kind of people? That is, if the US gets shot in the ass, move a little left to present a better target of the other cheek.

Carter was spineless, and Clinton gutted the military to make finances look better. And now Obama enters into another nuclear arms reduction agreement that shows the world just how week this once super power has become. Our present enemies probably had a little respect for this country, at least in a counter puncher kind of way. Whether they hate us and want to kill us or not, at least there was some respect for what we would do militarily. This agreement is kinda like a dog that rolls over on its back exposing the jugular in surrender.

Bribery . . . By The Boss

The Boss has come up with a new way to get me to got to church with her. The carry in dinners following the service was the best she could do, but now there's an addition. If I go with her this Sunday she wants me to take her shooting after the carry in dinner. Well . . . . how can I resist that invitation?

What??

On the way home from work is a road sign that reads "target enforcement area".
So if I should miss the target I'm likely to get a ticket?

May be of Interest

Many years ago I read a book by this same guy and it was very informative. I was informed about this new one by e-mail. Here's a couple of quotes.

Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America , not the damned,
'Titanic'. I'll give you a sound bite: 'Throw all the bums out!'

You can't call yourself a patriot if you're not outraged.

But when you look around, you've got to ask: 'Where have all the leaders gone?'
Where are the curious, creative communicators? Where are the people of
character, courage, conviction, omnipotence, and common sense?

I have news for the gang in Congress. We didn't elect you to sit on your asses and
do nothing and remain silent while our democracy is being hijacked and
our greatness is being replaced with mediocrity. What is everybody so
afraid of? That some bonehead on NBC news or CNN news will call them a
name? Give me a break. Why don't you guys show some spine for a change?

Only a few people in the US know you elected an illegal alien to be President! A Muslim at that! And he jumped right in destroying the US from the inside. Osama
bin Laden is smiling from ear to ear because he is winning the war on
terror and you helped by voting his man in as President!

If that doesn't get you interested, I don't know what will.
We now return to our regular program.

Where Are The Horoes??

Last night the Boss asked me to watch a new DVD with her. The film was Mel Gibson's Passion in all its gory detail. I don't know how much of the details are historically accurate, but it certainly was graphic, and at least for me not in the least entertaining. It was upsetting in what was done to a man while others just watched without trying to do anything about it. I'll never watch it again.

Then today while waiting for the couple dozen house guests to arrive for our traditional Easter dinner I saw part of one of the newer Zorro shows. As a kid I read comic books like lots of other kids, but unlike most I liked Batman the most. That's probably because he is a regular guy without any super powers, gadgets galore but nothing super. Then when Zorro was a regular TV series I wanted to be just like him. A regular guy with skills that came to the rescue.

Those were my childhood heroes. Regular people that decided to stand up and fight for what's right and defend others. This all came crashing back while watching Passion. Where were the heroes that would stop the cruelty and madness? Has mankind changed in 2000 years? Are we still sheep controlled by madmen?

It seems to me that our children are missing an important part of growing up. The political correctness has killed the playacting of the villain and the hero. Violence in boys is as natural as the sun rising in the east, but it must be channeled in a constructive direction. They need the regular example of the good guy overcoming the villain. They need a fictional character like Zorro to emulate. Without this they will become sheep, or worse villains, and heroes will vanish.

Range Day

The eldest did a lot of arm twisting :-), but managed to convince me to abandon the household chores and spend some time with him at the range today. Between range time and paintball, I don't know which is the most fun I can have while fully clothed.

The first order of business, at the Boss's request, was to try her new Firestorm 380 to make sure it functioned. I was hoping she'd make the time to do that herself, but having a virgin gun in the house for something like 2 months is a travesty, so I obliged. I ran 50 rounds of Silver Bear and about a dozen Winchester white box flat points through it using both magazines without a hitch. Accuracy was very respectable at 25 yards, though it shot about 6 inches low for me.

When I got home she ordered a concealed carry purse for the little banger. I wish she'd put gun training and her own personal protection higher on her priority list. I don't mind her relying on me for protection, though I consider that a husbands duty and it's flattering, but I can't be with her all the time.

In both of my 9mms I've loaded Hornady 115gr HP/XTP for several years, but lately my practice ammo has been plated hollow points (Rainier) to save a little green. The first time I checked the new load for accuracy from a rest at 25 yards I shot a 5 round group of 1.2 inches. Today it was 5 shots in 1.8 inches. Both times were through my HiPower. I think that load is a keeper, though I'll verify that notion using the little Kahr PM9 on my next outing.

I don't shoot my carry guns very much, but today I made it a point to do some drawing from concealed and firing the Kimber UltraCarry. They don't like that sort of thing at this range so I kept things slow and worked on being smooth and acquiring the correct grip. With each draw I double tapped (quickly) a half sized silhouette target at 25 yards. All the holes were in the black.

For the first time in months I did some 100yd and 2ooyd attempts with the 357 and 454. My accuracy was acceptable at the beginning, but quickly fell off. If I was deer hunting today, an animal at 100yds would've been venison, at 200yds only if it was a very, very big deer.

I also spent some time with the Ishapore carbine and AR15 banging away at 200yds. Both of these wear zero magnification red dot sight systems. The AR is the most fun to shoot and by far the most accurate. It's also the most expensive to bring to the range. It seems I can put 100 rounds through the AR in the blink of an eye. That's what happens when you get one custom assembled to your personal specifications.

Lately I've been thinking about another AR or maybe a lever action. The AR would not be a shorty like the one I have now, but with a heavy, long barrel chambered in someething like the 6.5MM. The lever cranker would be in 454 Casull to match my Ruger Super Redhawk. So far just thinking and dreaming. Besides, I'd rather spend the money on ammo for the Boss, if I can ever get her to the range.
