Yesterday evening the Boss and I attended the funeral service celebrating the life of my son's mother-in-law and the Boss's good friend. She passed after 3 years of suffering through the effects of ALS. Thankfully her suffering is finally at an end.
I called the service a celebration because it was primarily a gathering of friends and family. There were definatley some times of great saddness because of our loss, but those were brief because most said their goodbyes a while back.
The best thing a parent can do is bring their children to these events. It's amazing how the spirits of all can be lifted by a child playing. My own grandson was very reserved and quiet at first. That's completely out of character for him, but when he reverted back to his normal self it brought a smile to the Boss. And that was a welcome relief.
