Not Much Difference

So this year Trump will be pushing for infrastructure spending of about $1T.  How does that get paid for?  More dept for our kids?  How about quit giving money to third world countries?  Or how about reducing the size of government?

Doesn't seem to much matter, both parties have no issue with steeling from the citizen and spending.

Mud & More Mud

The problem with where we keep our horses is that there are too many horses for the acreage.  So basically, the pasture is at least 60% dirt.  So there's no grazing, and with the thaw and rain it's a big mud hole.  The owner has kept them in their stalls for the last few days for fear that slipping in the deep mud would cause an injury.

Continuous grazing and the resulting continuous movement is healthier for horses than standing in a stall with hay twice a day.  It's also a lot more work for me, especially with the deep mud between the barn and the crap pile.  And both horses tend to get thrush standing in their own waste.

So we've been keeping our eyes open for another place to purchase with at least 2 acres of pasture. The down side will be likely remodeling and a horse trailer to purchase.  We don't need a trailer now because of the proximity to the bridle trails.

Gun vs Knife

Saw a very informative video today.  First it was very graphic showing the damage a knife con do to the human body.  Then drills and experiments that demonstrated the 21 foot rule.

Taking a knife to a gun fight?  If the gun is holstered, then inside 20 feet, I'd bet on the knife.

I've always said that if I'm ever in a handgun fight, I'd want it to be at any distance over 30 yards.  The vast majority of handgunners never shoot past 25 yards, and most keep it at 21 feet.  For me, 25 yards is my minimum, then 50 and 75.  If shooting my 357 or 454 I start at 50 yards, then 100 and occasionally stretch it out to 200 yards.

So bring a knife to a gun fight. Hell yes, if you're close.

Learned Something

Haven't been to the stables for a few days.  Got there this afternoon and saw a halter on my little mare.  I never leave her halter on, because that's not a safe thing to do.  Also it wasn't her halter.  No one saw it happen, but she jumped the fence and was in the neighbors back yard.  The property owner's daughter grabbed a halter, walked up to my mare and lead her back home.

Don't know why or what happened, but I learned that my Rocky Mountain mare can jump a fence that is about 4 feet tall.  She's a great little trail horse, but that's amazing to me because she's just barely 14.3 hands tall.  So a horse that's just about 4 feet 8 inches at the withers jumped a fence that is close to 4 feet tall.  Amazing.
