There seems to be no shortage of government types that spout becoming energy independent. Then when there's a project to, relatively, quickly make it happen the tree huggers join the bureaucrats to put a stop to it. If they all had their way, we'd be regressing back to the pre-industrial days.
I suppose what they actually mean by energy independence, is anything but oil and coal. You know, the energy sources that we have in abundance.
