Bill of Rights Day

Did you know that yesterday was officially Bill of Rights Day? It was certainly news to me at least.

Regardless, the heart of the matter (2A) was the right of the individual to defend himself. It matters not whether it is an attempt to defend against a tyrant king or a criminal robber, it is the arms that enable that defense to take place and be successful. It doesn't matter if you're fighting off French invaders, marauding Indians, or a drugged up gang bangers. The threats to life and liberty may have changed but they have not disappeared. A free person has the right to choose whether to trust their safety to the mayor, the police, seek solitude in safety of numbers, or take responsibility for their own safety and the means to ensure it.

Unfortunately we could have a Constitution Day as a national holiday and it would still be ignored, just as The Constitution is generally ignored today by citizens and government alike.
