Piracy

I don't think it's well known that the US navy was initially created to protect merchant ships from pirates and slavers.  Those pirates and slavers were Muslim.  Recently Iran, a muslim nation, has captured 2 oil tankers.  Makes me wonder, is piracy ingrained in the muslim religion?
