So the mare is looking and acting better. It's been about 4 weeks since she had her accident. The chest injury has healed and most all of the swelling is gone. She occasionally puts some weight on the injured hip. The leg wraps on her lower rear legs is keeping the swelling down, and all visible swelling in the hip has gone. As expected she's losing muscle just standing around resting.
The vet recommended we keep her in the stall for 8 weeks. If she keeps getting better, in a couple of weeks I'll start leading her for a couple minutes at a time in the barn, and work up from there. I think it'll be at least April before I try taking her under saddle.
Maybe the Boss might be ready to try riding again by then. She's having knee replacement surgery a week from tomorrow.
