Several days ago the weather men predicted a break in the gloomy drizzle today. So I planned a vacation day. Then yesterday, they predicted the break for tomorrow, and last night it was today again. So instead of going to work, I slept in a little, then the Boss and I went to the stables. They didn't really have a clue.
We're both getting tired of riding in the small pasture, and decided it's time to move up a grade. We saddled our horses and headed down the little country road toward a back door entrance into the state park. The bad news is that it started to sprinkle water from the sky, then we heard the weather alert siren (turned out to be a test), so headed back to the stables. Then a light rain came for the rest of the day. We never made it into the park or onto the 25+ miles of trails.
The good news is that we rode past 7 dogs barking up a storm, passed on the road by 3 vehicles and the horses didn't give a rip. The only issue was that Toby still requires a snug rein because he really wants to move-out. If the reins aren't kept snug, he moves into a slow acceleration that continues until he's reined back. Toby is the big black and white horse that I share with my granddaughter.
To some this day would be considered a bust, but not us. The Boss saddled her own horse for the first time. We learned the horses are OK with road traffic, dogs and traveling on asphalt. We are all a bit more comfortable with each other. We enjoyed ourselves despite the rain shortened event.
