Our old house has been for sale for about 2-1/2 years and empty for 2 years. In that time we've had just 1 interested party. So we accepted their offer at about $20K less than we paid for it, not counting the added 3 car garage and updates. All is good right? Wrong.
The original sale contract has now been extended for the third time. This time another month. The latest is failure to pass the loan appraisal. It seems that the guidelines defining an in-law suite has changed. Apparently having a kitchen disqualifies the attached apartment as an in-law suite, though that's what it was built for and used for, for decades. The buyer is going to try another potential lender.
