Yesterday the youngest son was kind enough to help with some final work over at the old house. On the way home he was surprised at the number of people on the east coast who were not prepared for the big storm. Everyone had days to prepare. They had time to acquire food, water, gasoline or to simply leave the area. Those that lost their home need help, but even the helpers were not really prepared.
Self-reliance seems to be a rare trait in the US. We have a nanny state and a country full of children requiring hand holding.
