A while back I came into the possession of a Ruger Super Blackhawk in 44 Mag. Since I had all the reloading gear I then purchased a 44 Special to go with it. If you have a Mag, then you are required to have a Special. Right? Well, that's my story anyway. I no longer have the Mag, but still have the little Bull Dog.
The Bull Dog is light weight and has very thin rubber grips. This combination makes it good for carry, but a bit nasty to shoot. With anything but light loads, it's actually painful, and I'm not a recoil wimp by any stretch.
My Max loads for reasonable comfort are 210gr @ 810f/s and 240gr @ 677f/s. Yeah, rather slow, but it's better than getting hit in the hand with a roofing hammer.
