Back in the mid 90s congress passed a bill that would allow drilling for oil in Alasks next to AMWR. President Willy vetoed that bill. There's a good possibility that oil and gasoline would not be screwing our economy today if it wasn't for the open-pants man.
And now a Dem controlled congress refuses to allow drilling in the same area. I keep hearing 'we can't drill ourselves out if this' message.
Let's see, . . . If we drilled and built refineries 10 years ago we wouldn't have the fuel related economy troubles we now have. I don't know about other states, but here in Ohio they want to raise gasoline tax because we haven't been using as much fuel the past few years, so revenues are down. So people were cutting back before the skyrocketing prices. Seems to me that drilling, though 10 years too late, will have a positive effect on our economy today and in the near term. That's enough time for the natural progression of a free market to adjust to other technologies without putting us all back in the stone age.
Actually, I believe we can drill ourselves out, at least in the near term. Unfortunately the idealistic Dems won't budge even when reality slaps them in the face, so we're going to have economic problems for quite some time.
My father-in-law, the socialist light, keeps saying the Dems are 'for the working man'. Heh. I saw a pink pig flying high in the sky last night.
