As soon as we got home, we unloaded the brothrt-in-law's SUV, then immediately left to pick up our 4 month old Sheba Inu, Miko. The Boss sure missed the little fur ball.
Tomorrow it's back normal. The week away was definately needed. I can feel the difference.

Vacation Day 4
Finally a day without water falling from the sky.
Spent all day in the Amish country near Lancaster Pa. Mostly following the Boss around all the shops. Then a wonderful production of Jonah in the Sight & Sound Theater.
Relaxing.

Oldies in the Military
My little sister sent me this, written by someone else.
Enjoy. I did.
You can't be older than 42 to join the military. They've got the whole thing ass-backwards. Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn't be able to join a military unit until you're at least 35.
For starters, researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.
Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. 'My back hurts! I can't sleep, I'm tired and hungry.' We are impatient and maybe letting us kill some asshole that desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for awhile.
An 18-year-old doesn't even like to get up before 10am. Old guys always get up early to pee, so what the hell. Besides, like I said, I'm tired and can't sleep and since I'm already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical son-of-a-bitch.
If captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.
Boot camp would be easier for old guys. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we're used to soft food. We've also developed an appreciation for guns. We've been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house, away from the screaming and yelling.
They could lighten up on the obstacle course however... I've been in combat and never saw a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training. Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too... I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet.
An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to start a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn't figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.
These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm's way. Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten coward terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple million pissed off old farts with attitudes and automatic weapons, who know that their best years are already behind them.
HEY!! How about recruiting Women over 50 in menopause!!! You think men have attitudes?? Ohhhhhhhhhhhh my God!!! If nothing else, put them on border patrol. They'll have it secured the first night!

Vacation Day 3
Wore the new shoes all day today. Very comfortable. Why is it that women buy shoes that fit, but after they wear them for part of a day they don't fit anymore?
Another day of rain all day. Stayed close to Hershey, toured a mall, had a great meal in an Irish pub then watched a movie in a theater for a change.
Tomorrow is a trip to Amish country near Lancaster and a live theater show, Noah, in the Sight & Sound theater. Rain or no rain, we're off to Lancaster tomorrow.
The Boss got an e-mail from the daughter-in-law that's dog sitting for us. They have a full grown Lab, and this week our Sheba Inu puppy. She sent a picture showing both dogs taking a nap in the larger dogs bed. Guess they're getting along just fine.

The brother-in-law's SUV is decked out with all sorts of goodies including Onstar. Several times during this trip he pushed the button on the rear view morror and got turn by turn directions. A handy feature that. He's a lot more trustful of Big Brother than I ever will be. His vehicle can be tracked and conversations recorded at any time without his knowledge. That possibility doesn't seem to bother him at all.

Vacation Day 2
We were planning to go to Annapolis today. I'm told there is an old historical section that's a bit interesting to visit. Basically a tourist trap. After looking at weather predictions, and considering the Boss's back pain we decided to stick around Hershey today. So we spent most of the rainy day at the outlet mall just next door. I bought a new pair of athletic shoes and 4 new polo shirts for work. The Boss basically bought nothing. That's a bit strange.

Vacation Report
Last night and for the next several days the Boss & I will be spending nights near Hershey Park in Pa. Her sister and husband are involved in a time share deal, and we 4 are occupying a 2 bedroom condo each evening for a week.
Today we drove south for a tour of the battlefield at Gettysburg. The Boss and I were there many years ago, but not the rest of the group. Even though this was a return trip for us, it was still very interesting. It's hard for me to immagine so many men just walking across open ground, up hill, directly into musket and cannon fire. I can't immagine soldiers of today following such stupid orders.
I sure hope the military leaders of today have studied and learned from the stupidity of our past.

I Hate Plumbing
The plumbing modifications I made to the new 'little' house have been a great irritation, though leaks have been minimal. Last weekend I finally finished the dreaded plumbing projects. Or so I thought. I stopped by this evening on the way home and noticed an ooze from the drinking water shut-off valve under the kitchen sink. So I tightened the threaded joint . . . . again.
Then in the basement I checked the drinking water filter condidtion, and discovered another ooze. That joint has been in service for several momths, so now it wants to leak.
I absolutey hate plumbing.
