The Other Cheek
Has anyone noticed how the Dems elected to the big house of late are turn the other cheek kind of people? That is, if the US gets shot in the ass, move a little left to present a better target of the other cheek.
Carter was spineless, and Clinton gutted the military to make finances look better. And now Obama enters into another nuclear arms reduction agreement that shows the world just how week this once super power has become. Our present enemies probably had a little respect for this country, at least in a counter puncher kind of way. Whether they hate us and want to kill us or not, at least there was some respect for what we would do militarily. This agreement is kinda like a dog that rolls over on its back exposing the jugular in surrender.

The Boss has come up with a new way to get me to got to church with her. The carry in dinners following the service was the best she could do, but now there's an addition. If I go with her this Sunday she wants me to take her shooting after the carry in dinner. Well . . . . how can I resist that invitation?

May be of Interest
Many years ago I read a book by this same guy and it was very informative. I was informed about this new one by e-mail. Here's a couple of quotes.
Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America , not the damned,

You can't call yourself a patriot if you're not outraged.
But when you look around, you've got to ask: 'Where have all the leaders gone?'
Where are the curious, creative communicators? Where are the people of
character, courage, conviction, omnipotence, and common sense?
I have news for the gang in Congress. We didn't elect you to sit on your asses and
do nothing and remain silent while our democracy is being hijacked and
our greatness is being replaced with mediocrity. What is everybody so
afraid of? That some bonehead on NBC news or CNN news will call them a
name? Give me a break. Why don't you guys show some spine for a change?
Only a few people in the US know you elected an illegal alien to be President! A Muslim at that! And he jumped right in destroying the US from the inside. Osama
bin Laden is smiling from ear to ear because he is winning the war on
terror and you helped by voting his man in as President!
If that doesn't get you interested, I don't know what will.

Where Are The Horoes??
Last night the Boss asked me to watch a new DVD with her. The film was Mel Gibson's Passion in all its gory detail. I don't know how much of the details are historically accurate, but it certainly was graphic, and at least for me not in the least entertaining. It was upsetting in what was done to a man while others just watched without trying to do anything about it. I'll never watch it again.
Then today while waiting for the couple dozen house guests to arrive for our traditional Easter dinner I saw part of one of the newer Zorro shows. As a kid I read comic books like lots of other kids, but unlike most I liked Batman the most. That's probably because he is a regular guy without any super powers, gadgets galore but nothing super. Then when Zorro was a regular TV series I wanted to be just like him. A regular guy with skills that came to the rescue.
Those were my childhood heroes. Regular people that decided to stand up and fight for what's right and defend others. This all came crashing back while watching Passion. Where were the heroes that would stop the cruelty and madness? Has mankind changed in 2000 years? Are we still sheep controlled by madmen?
It seems to me that our children are missing an important part of growing up. The political correctness has killed the playacting of the villain and the hero. Violence in boys is as natural as the sun rising in the east, but it must be channeled in a constructive direction. They need the regular example of the good guy overcoming the villain. They need a fictional character like Zorro to emulate. Without this they will become sheep, or worse villains, and heroes will vanish.

Range Day
The eldest did a lot of arm twisting :-), but managed to convince me to abandon the household chores and spend some time with him at the range today. Between range time and paintball, I don't know which is the most fun I can have while fully clothed.
The first order of business, at the Boss's request, was to try her new Firestorm 380 to make sure it functioned. I was hoping she'd make the time to do that herself, but having a virgin gun in the house for something like 2 months is a travesty, so I obliged. I ran 50 rounds of Silver Bear and about a dozen Winchester white box flat points through it using both magazines without a hitch. Accuracy was very respectable at 25 yards, though it shot about 6 inches low for me.
When I got home she ordered a concealed carry purse for the little banger. I wish she'd put gun training and her own personal protection higher on her priority list. I don't mind her relying on me for protection, though I consider that a husbands duty and it's flattering, but I can't be with her all the time.
In both of my 9mms I've loaded Hornady 115gr HP/XTP for several years, but lately my practice ammo has been plated hollow points (Rainier) to save a little green. The first time I checked the new load for accuracy from a rest at 25 yards I shot a 5 round group of 1.2 inches. Today it was 5 shots in 1.8 inches. Both times were through my HiPower. I think that load is a keeper, though I'll verify that notion using the little Kahr PM9 on my next outing.
I don't shoot my carry guns very much, but today I made it a point to do some drawing from concealed and firing the Kimber UltraCarry. They don't like that sort of thing at this range so I kept things slow and worked on being smooth and acquiring the correct grip. With each draw I double tapped (quickly) a half sized silhouette target at 25 yards. All the holes were in the black.
For the first time in months I did some 100yd and 2ooyd attempts with the 357 and 454. My accuracy was acceptable at the beginning, but quickly fell off. If I was deer hunting today, an animal at 100yds would've been venison, at 200yds only if it was a very, very big deer.
I also spent some time with the Ishapore carbine and AR15 banging away at 200yds. Both of these wear zero magnification red dot sight systems. The AR is the most fun to shoot and by far the most accurate. It's also the most expensive to bring to the range. It seems I can put 100 rounds through the AR in the blink of an eye. That's what happens when you get one custom assembled to your personal specifications.
Lately I've been thinking about another AR or maybe a lever action. The AR would not be a shorty like the one I have now, but with a heavy, long barrel chambered in someething like the 6.5MM. The lever cranker would be in 454 Casull to match my Ruger Super Redhawk. So far just thinking and dreaming. Besides, I'd rather spend the money on ammo for the Boss, if I can ever get her to the range.
