USCCA

Renewed my membership to USCCA today.  I've been a member since 2008.  If you carry or are thinking about carrying, I highly recommend membership.

My Girls

The horse has now been out of her stall 3 times this week.  The first time she was struggling to remember how that leg was supposed to work.  Today I let her wander around the small barn on her own for a while.  Next week maybe outside in a very small area.  She is still extremely weak from just standing in the stall for 2 months.

The Boss has gotten a lot better.  She can walk a short distance, maybe 30 feet, without any aid and significantly farther with a cane.  In home therapy ends next week, then she will be traveling to a facility for continued therapy.  And she's developed red blisters around the surgery site.  One Doc thinks shingles despite getting vaccinated last fall.

The Health of my Girls

The Boss's knee recovery has had a setback.  Earlier in the week she was within 4 degrees of getting her leg straight, now she's back to 8.  She also has started getting pimple looking spots on her skin at the knee.  She's been treating the spots with cream and taking antihistamine.  She'll probably see a Doc. early in the week for that.

The new knee is titanium and I believe UHMW.  Ultra High Molecular Weight polyethylene.  Some sort of adhesive is also used.  They didn't test her for reaction to any of those prior to surgery, like they did for my hip replacement.  It would be a real bummer if they have to remove the knee replacement and start over.

As of today my horse has been confined in her stall for 2 months as the Vet. recommended.  Probably won't make it there today, but tomorrow I'll be starting her reconditioning. I'll start by rope leading her very slowly in the barn, and work up from there.  It might take a month or 2 before trying her under saddle. She has lost a lot of muscle mass just standing around.

Don't Care What Color he is

Today my father-in-law said that people who have issues with Obama, have problems with his skin color.  I got pissed.  Nobody calls me a bigot in my own house.  But what can be expected from a life long Democrat?  It could never be that he's just a piss poor president, and should be in prison with Hillary.

My Two Girls

It'll be 1 week tomorrow morning since the Boss had knee replacement.  The knee bending machine is now set at 75 degrees, heading for something greater than 100.  She's also close to getting her leg straight.  This week we had 1 nurse and 2 therapist visits. The physical therapist will be coming here 3 times a week for at least 3 weeks.

Today she spent a couple of hours on a recliner in the living room.  She said it felt good to get away from the bed for a while.  Thankfully she can get to the bathroom on her own using a walker, though she needs help getting out of the machine.

Our husky/shepherd mix has been acting different ever since the Boss came home from the hospital.  He spends a lot of the day, and all night laying near her in the spare bedroom.  It's like he knows she's not right and is standing guard.

On a lesser note, the mare seems to be getting a little better.  She's been stall confined for 6 weeks now, so 2 more weeks before I can start walking her.  She has some noticeable muscle atrophy.  We'll start with walking on a lead, free time in a small paddock followed by pasture time.  I'm guessing the end of April before we can have some saddle work.

Something Right

With the Boss temporarily crippled after knee replacement surgery, we've been covered with well wishes and help.  Ready to heat and eat meals have been personally delivered with well wishes.  Just today a friend came to the house and cooked enough food for us to eat several meals.

We also had a visit from new friends who brought her flowers.  These people have their own problems.  Two kids sick, the women less than well and the man had hand surgery yesterday. But they found the time to come and visit the Boss.

I'm very grateful and a little surprised.  We must be doing something right in this life to be treated so special.

Trump

I wish Trump was more libertarian leaning, but I suppose if he was he'd have no chance, especially in the general election.  Might as well face the music, most of the country wants big government controlling us.  Self sufficiency has gone.

Tired

The Boss now has an artificial left knee.  Her left leg is strapped to a machine that bends her knee for her.  And there is a pump that circulates cold water to her knee.  She's in the spare bedroom.  I need to give her pain meds every 4 hours, and help her out of the machine to go to the bathroom when required.

Up at 4:30 Monday.  Home around 6:00 to feed the dogs.  Back at the hospital for the night.  Up at 4:00 when she got pain meds.  At home at 9:00 to feed the dogs then back to the hospital.  Brought her home at 7:00.  Tired.

Physical therapy tomorrow at 5:30 PM.  And I need to find time to clean horse stalls.

Tired.  Tired.  Tired.
