Vikings

The Boss is watching some of last seasons episodes of the TV series Vikings.

I wonder. . . . . Would there have been as many wars in human history, If we still fought with swords?

I suppose so.

Turkey Weekend

I trust my few readers had a good thanksgiving.  We had dinner at the Boss's sisters where I endured 3 high volume women and a child with volume control stuck on maximum.

Had planned on riding horses yesterday, but called it off.  My vertigo was trying to make a comeback. My medication has stopped it from progressing but I still feel a bit off today.  I wonder, can loud prolonged noise cause vertigo?

Good People

Several years ago, on my birthday, I purchased a hacked-up Ishapore Enfield.  For those that don't know, that's old style Enfield rifle made in India with modern steel and chambered for the 7.62x51 NATO cartridge.  A previous owner shortened the forearm and barrel, then installed a flash hider.  Not being original, I got it cheap.

Since the rear sight is mounted to the barrel that is now about 18 inches, the sight radius approached that of a handgun.  Not good for old eyes, so I put a B-Square scope mount where the rear sight would be.  That worked OK for a light weight red dot, but not for the 2.5 - 6 scope now mounted there.  The force of recoil stripped the hold down screw.

Where I work we deal with a couple of small shops, one of which is owned by a father and son that participate in 1,000 yard shoots with black powder cartridge rifles.  They've even built their own rifles.  Yesterday I took my Ishapore there and got the issue fixed . . . . for nothing.  The machinist said that some day he may need my help with something.

As a general rule the shooting fraternity is filled with good people.  Yes there are some whack jobs, but I've found them to be few and far between.

When the news, local and national, is filled with reports of evil it's easy to get a jaded view of humanity.  It's good to get a glimpse of the good on occasion.

The Next Day

So the next day after shoveling out the stalls I took my mare for a short ride by myself.  Last spring she had issues going across open fields, and knowing that the corn is down that's where we headed. Some mares have an issue with leaving the herd, and my girl is no exception.  She was a bit antsy going up the road and a lot antsy in the picked corn field.  Not having much time, I headed her back down the road, and barely had control of her speed.  I turned her into a front yard, and the next thing I knew I was on the ground.  Really don't know what happened.  Still sore today.

Ouch

So Saturday we decided to go trail riding. While getting the horses ready to go, I heard the Bosses horse squeal.I turned quickly and saw the Boss stagger into the wall.  Her horse probably thought some other horse or critter was pushing too close to his back end.  The Boss was not touching him, but should have been, and bending down to brush the outside of his rear leg.  He kicked back and caught her in the nose with his leg.

So we didn't go riding anywhere other than the ER.  The horse broke her nose.

Insulted

Do not take XXXX if you are allergic to XXXX
The riding mower engine dies if the blades are not disengaged when shifting into reverse
Some autos have automatic headlights if the engine is on
Signs say don't put your hands under the mower deck
Automatic car door locks

I'm getting sick of being insulted by commercials and federally mandated warnings.

Could be Sexist

Mud

Had hoped to go riding this weekend, but too much rain lately.  The trails will be deep in mud.  The horse can handle that easily, as long as they're not carrying a passenger.  Since I'm more passenger than good rider, there's a chance I could cause the horse to get hurt.  Would rather that not happen.

Next weekend promises to be better.

Brain Dead Moment

So I put empty brass in the tumbler.  A mixture of 9mm, 357, 45acp and 454 was in for cleaning in ground walnut shells.  That was a brain dead moment.  The 2 smaller diameter brass will slip easily into the 45 caliber brass, except when walnut grit is present and vibrating.  Something like 40% came out stuck inside the other.  Separating them was a real pain in the ass.

Since I hadn't cleaned the vibrator, separator or changed the medium in years, I cleaned both and changed medium.  As I type this only 45 caliber brass is now tumbling.
