I'll Help Them Pack

The last few years I haven't watched much in the way of sports on the TV.  Throughout my life I've never been much for watching sports, because I was too busy playing sports.  Even though I can't physically play sports in my elder years, I find watching to be less than satisfactory.  Despite that I was intending to watch some NFL this year, at least the local team.

Not now!!!  When those morons decided to disrespect our national anthem, I decided they could go to hell.  I'm done with the NFL.  I don't care what their reasoning is, they can leave the country, I'll help them pack.

Civilian Liberty

I read that we citizens posses more guns than most, maybe all, the militaries in the world.  And I've observed that civilians are generally better marksmen than most of law-enforcement and military personnel.  Without firearms we are reduced to subjects and likely to fall into servitude of our own government.

Shut The Door

So we went from nice weather with highs in the low 70s, to highs at 90 and humidity for the next half dozen days.  My sister lives in Florida. I wish she would shut the damn door.  I'd welcome a little snow about now.

Beautiful Sight

So after taking care of the horses and mowing grass, made it to the range for some handgun practice.  A few years ago I purchased some cheap bullets of plated lead.  They shoot fine except that the hollow points tend to hang on the feed ramp of my Kimber, especially when it's a little dirty.  Today I found that problem only occurred when I was shooting weak hand only.  When that happens the bullet gets pushed back in the case and refuses to feed even with a taper crimp.  Apparently my weak hand has a limp wrist.

I'm not worried about it too much since my carry ammunition uses the better quality Hornady XTP. Never had a problem with that stuff.

Put a dozen rounds of 454 through the Ruger Super Redhawk.  Forgot how that thing recoiled.

Met a family at the range.  Four generations of nice people shooting.  A beautiful sight to behold.

Houses of Sticks

My sister and her family live in Lakeland Florida.  For those that know nothing about the state, that's between Tampa and Orlando, but closer to Tampa.  Twice a year she drives north with her critters and spends a month with us.  She had planned on leaving this coming Sunday but changed her plans.  And she was afraid to leave early for fear of not being able to find gasoline or lodging.  So now she'll ride out the most horrific storm in maybe centuries in a very old house.  It's probably good the house is that old, built like a wooden fort, and has weathered hurricanes before with virtually no damage.

Both of her daughters live in newer homes.  I don't know if they left or not, nor how good their homes will stand the wind.

Spend Here Not There

If I remember correctly, (too lazy to go recheck) Congress has approved $7.9B for helping the victims of Harvey, so far.  And now Irma is joining the party, so who knows how much taxpayer money will be needed.  Rather than going farther in debt, let's put Americans first and re-allocate funds that would otherwise go overseas.  Let's stop supporting other governments and support ourselves.

New Rider

Three of us went riding this morning.  The third was my ten year old grandson riding behind the Boss on a little buddy saddle.  We stayed on relatively flat land because of the mud and the young inexperienced rider.  We were out for about 1-1/2 hours and the youngster had a great time.

Tomorrow, being a holiday, is time off for me.  Thought about riding again, but decided that my bad hip needs some time off the saddle.  Besides, still have some home electrical work to do.

Divergent Rhino

Watched a movie yesterday called Divergent.  Pretty good show.  In the film they use a handgun that looks like this.

I've always found the rhino interesting.  Discharging from the bottom cylinder has some definite handling advantages.  The down side is that the trigger mechanism becomes more complicated.  Wouldn't mind having one of those, if for no other reason than it's uniqueness.

So Much For Plans

Next week is my hire anniversary at my present and last place of employment.  With 1 vacation day to burn I took today off for a 4 day weekend.  The plan was to go trail riding today and then again Sun or Mon, find some range time and get some things done around the house.

So today we have intermittent light rain and wind.  The forecast is for the same tomorrow.  So much for planning.  Riding and shooting will have to wait for the second 2 days.  Today and tomorrow will be getting some things done around here.
