Not Painful

It took several weeks but we got a face-to-face at a SS office without having to wait. Standing or sitting on generic chairs  is painful for the Boss, so we managed to get an appointment.  I was pleasantly surprised that the lady did her prep-work so was efficient and helpful.  The Boss got signed up for SS and medicare part B, and my part B got straightened out.

That was the best interaction I've had with any government agency.

Ass Wipes

So Trump declared an emergency, then the legislature passes a bill to make the declaration void.  As any reasonable person could predict, Trump vetoed the bill.

What a total bunch of ass wipes we have in DC.  Making a point, and wasting our money, seems more important than protecting this country from invasion.  The security of the country was the original reason to have a federal government, the first and most important job.

That's Going to Cost

The Boss has wanted the kitchen remodeled ever since we moved into this smaller house, but it wasn't practical until her father passed.  This afternoon we visited a place with some room dimensions to look at cabinets, counter top and flooring material.  The crew that did the bathroom guessed $11,000 for labor. I got a feeling this is going to be very expensive, something like $30,000 +.

The guy we saw will be creating a virtual model of the finished kitchen and a price.  We'll know more then.

She Hates Shooting Ranges

There was a time when the Boss was a better shot than me with a 357 magnum.  Then we no longer had the use of private land, and since she absolutely hates shooting ranges she almost quit shooting entirely.  And then arthritis got her thumb base joint so anything with recoil became a real issue.  She can shoot her Bersa .380 OK because of the weight and grip size.  But lack of trigger time over the years has certainly negatively effected her marksmanship.

When I mentioned her learning to run the 30 carbine and AR she agreed but not until after I retire.  The shooting range should be mostly empty in the middle of the day during the week.

I'd like her to be able to use a long gun . . . just in case I'm not around or need some back up.

Decision

Settled on the 12 gauge auto loader, at least for now.  Got 5 number 4 BK in the magazine and 5 more on the sleeve, with the chamber empty. Why that one?  The CZ 720 utility has fiber optic bead on the front, adjustable stock set short, and I used it during the tactical shotgun course at TDI.

 - - - - Update 3/4/19
Why #4 BK you ask?  Because 00 BK at much of any distance strings horizontal in my shotgun.  The next size down at the store was #4 and it gives me a nice even round pattern.

The AR and 30 carbine are shorter and maybe better for in the home use but since the Boss doesn't know how to run any of them, might as well go with the 12.  Besides, if I need to be moving through the house, my bedside 45 seems a better choice.
