Range Time

Made it to the range today for a couple of hours.  The Hi-Power, 1911, 357, and 454 all got a little workout.  I used a single hanging, 6 inch diameter steel target set at 75 yards.  Had a tough time ringing the dong, but did manage to hit it a few times.  Mostly I just scared it to death.  Handgun skills erode rather quickly.

Ran into a father and son just getting started into shooting.  They were sharing a 22 bolt gun, and he had a S&W 9mm that he'd never shot before.  Gave them a couple of pointers on holding a pistol.  Just love seeing youngsters getting introduced to the shooting sports.  In this case they are both newbies.  The father said some professional training is in their future.  Good.  I help when and where I can, but I'm not a professional trainer.

The steel target I was shooting at hangs by chains from an upside down U shaped bar that sets into a frame on the ground.  The ground frame is not symmetrical and I arrange it so most of it extends behind the target. That way it won't tip over when struck by the bullet.  That arrangement works quite well except when hit by the 454 at 75 yards.  It didn't fall over backwards, but the resulting forward swing set the whole thing on its nose.  A little funny, actually.

Helping the Boss clean out the gold fish ponds when getting home was a lot less enjoyable.
